The Chisos Mountains are the heart of Big Bend National Park — a sky island rising from the Chihuahuan Desert floor in the most remote corner of Texas. Photographed on 8×10 large format slide film, this image captures the extraordinary quality of light that makes this landscape one of the most compelling in North America. The tonal depth and resolution of large format film give this print a physical presence that rewards viewing at size.

Mayfield Park & Preserve sits in the Tarrytown neighborhood of Austin. This photograph, made on 8×10 large format slide film, moves past the park's famous cottage and formal gardens to find the creek corridor at its heart: a slow-moving stream enclosed by a dense canopy of live oaks and cedar elms, the light filtered green through the leaves overhead, the clay banks still damp from recent rains.

The Rio Grande flows through the heart of Santa Elena Canyon in near-perfect stillness, its surface a mirror for the towering limestone walls rising 1,500 feet on either side. This photograph was made from inside the canyon on 8×10 large format slide film — the composition nearly symmetrical, the two great cliff faces converge toward a narrow strip of blue sky at the top of the frame, the warm golden light of morning raking across stone in ochre and orange. A cathedral of geology, lit by the sun.
